When the girls originally found out we were moving to Maryland, they were crazy excited. Apple kept talking about how she wanted to build a snowman as soon as we got there (even though it was the middle of summer). We got our first snowstorm right before Halloween so we thought we were in for an awesome winter. We haven't lived in a good snow area since we left Idaho. But, sadly, this has apparently been the warmest and weirdest winter in a really long time. We've had days where it was up to 65. There have been a couple of snowy days here and there, but it usually melts before we can get out in it.

So when we woke up the Saturday morning to a couple of inches on the ground, Apple and Mango had to be out there. They got busy, making snow angels, trying to sled down the back of our yard, and piling up as much snow as they could on one of the sleds. Mango would get a little handful of snow, take a bite of it, and then toss it on to the pile. They were cute and totally bummed when it was time to go in. By the afternoon, the snow had turned to rain and it was almost completely gone. The snow pile they were making is actually still sitting out there on the sled in the shady part of our yard.

I hope that next year is a little better. I loved playing in the snow when I was little. We would get enough sometimes that we could jump off the roof of our house without breaking any legs. Sledding and tubing were amazing. At school one year, we built a huge system of snow tunnels in the playground. Winter was the best. It's so crazy for me to think about how dramatically different my kids' childhoods are from my own. I was a wild country girl and they are definitely city kids. They've spent more time on the beach than they have in the snow. It's amazing where life takes you. :)

I'm happy they finally got a bit of snow to play in. Hopefully you get some more, but not more than you can enjoy.
